Dear brothers and sisters. We are family in Christ,
The word we keep hearing today in the Church is evangelization. It means what all the stores, restaurants and business are doing these days. They are advertising, proclaiming the good news of bargains, it's almost a give away and you deserve it. Come and get it.
That is what we as Church are trying to do. We are trying to get the Good News of Jesus and His message out to people. We have eternal life ahead. We have the sacraments, we have the moral instruction, we have the poor people, the blind and the lame and we can give them all what they need to attain what St. Paul describes: "eye has not seen, ear has not heard, the beautiful things that God has prepared for us." Now, isn't that worth going after? We are looking for all kinds of ways to spread that Good News.
When I traveled out west back in 1995, I went west through the middle of the U.S. and came back the southern route. During all that time, I heard plenty of gospel stations delivered by various denominations and I never heard one station speaking about the Catholic Church. It was as if we didn't exist. I found one sign advertising a Catholic Church. The letters were hanging out of order and I got the impression that the Church had closed. The only exception were the mission Churches in California. They advertised well.
Now there are over 170 Catholic Churches on the radio and we are fortunate to have Annunciation Radio in our diocese. Locally, it is 89.5 FM in our area. It is our way of evangelizing. Most of us are not good at talking and sharing and advertising our faith, but this is one way we can do it by financially and prayerfully supporting them in their fall campaign It runs from Nov. 27-30. I will be on the air from 4-5 p.m. on Nov. 30. I will be happy to take any donations with me. Make out the check to Annunciation Radio. I will be happy to add it to my contribution. I will also ask this weekend for support. I have been able to raise more money than the Bishop and hope to do so again. If you wish to call in your pledge, the number Is
888-215-0624. Spread the Good News so that our voices will be heard above all the commercials and sales because we have a better deal.
