Spring time, Spring cleaning,
I remember dad saying that he was in trouble when mom noticed someone cleaning windows in spring time. His turn would come when they arrived at home. There is more energy in the air, the temperature seems warmer and we feel more motivated to go outside. Spring is in the air.
As a Church, we consider Lent the spring time, the time to clean up, to be renewed, to be strengthened and motivated. One of the great gifts that God has given us is the sacrament of Penance or Confession to help us.
It is time to clean up, to get rid of the garbage of sin, to cut the bonds of addiction, to be pure for the Lord as we look to the new life of Easter, a renewal, a spring time in full bloom.
Beside the usual penance services at the parishes in our areas, I am trying something new for here but becoming more popular throughout the diocese. It is called a Day of Grace. It is a time that I will spent in the confessional from noon to 6:30 p.m. and folks can come any time during this space to go to confession. April 5 will be the day at St. Mary followed by fish dinner and stations of the cross. April 12 from noon to 6:30 p.m. will be the day at Resurrection followed by the stations of the cross. It is time for a more leisurely celebration of the Sacrament. We will not be in a hurry as we are sometimes when we know that someone is waiting in line.
I invite you to take the opportunity to be cleansed for the Lord to do His work in you.
Together on a blessed journey.
