Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
How do we put the Lord in our daily Life? What can help us to experience his Presence as we go about our daily activities?
St. Ignatius of Loyola gave the EXAMEN to his disciples to use. I would like to share with you the various steps. These are taken from the book, A simple, life changing prayer by Jim Manney (Loyola Press)
1. Pray for Light. Ask the Holy Spirit the grace to pray, to see and to understand. Jesus said that He would send the Holy Spirit to teach us how to pray, to teach us what to pray for and what to do.
2. Giving thanks. Look at your day in a spirit of gratitude. Everything is a gift from God.
3. Review the day. Guided by the Holy Spirit, look back over the day. Pay attention to your experience. Look for God in it.
4. Look at what's wrong. Face up to failures and shortcomings. Ask forgiveness for your faults. Ask God to show you ways to improve.
5.Resolve what to do in the day to come. Where do you need God today? What can you do today.
The recommendation is to do this at the end of the day. However, I found out that I am too tired to concentrate. So, it can work to take a moment during the day and do parts of it. Another way is to take one step at a time and work on that one for a week, then move to another one till you have all of them in place. Lent is coming and this might be a good way to bring the Lord into your daily life. God didn't make the world in one day, therefore, build it gradually.
God  bless our journey together,
Fr. Nick
