From the Pastor:

This past week the rectory received two new additions that make our priestly lives even more enjoyable and interesting. Their names are Kiran Kottana and Evan Sekerak. As you might guess from the last name, Kiran is related to Fr. Kishore – they are brothers! Kiran lives in Australia and works there as an electrical engineer. He made the long trip here to visit Fr. Kishore for a few weeks. Fr. Evarist and I are very happy that the Kottana brothers are having their reunion here with us! If you are keeping track, that means we now have four different continents represented in the rectory: Australia, Asia, Africa, and North America!

Although Kiran’s stay with us is short, Evan Sekerak will be with us until next summer. If Evan’s name sounds familiar, it is because he is the seminarian I previously mentioned who would be with us for his internship year. I’m excited for him for many reasons. The first is the experiences he will have here in our tri-parish community. There isn’t any other place in our diocese that offers as many different pastoral experiences as our area: Catholic high school and elementary schools, youth ministry, prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, outreach ministries to the poor, homebound, troubled, etc.

We priests are happily busy with these every day. There is joy in doing the will of God and joy in interacting with God’s people. Everything in this world is passing, but these are what last forever. Being part of that is interesting and exciting. I’m hoping Evan will experience both of these in a greater way in his year with us. As I’ve said before, as much as I found engineering to be interesting and fulfilling, being a priest is far more interesting and fulfilling than I ever imagined. It is a blessed life that every young man should consider, beginning when he’s a boy.

Evan is from St. Aloysius parish in Bowling Green and graduated from Cardinal Stritch Catholic School in 2018. He then attended college, beginning his studies in engineering, but then transferred to Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. After graduating from there with a degree in philosophy, he moved to Cincinnati where he has been studying theology for the last two years. Upon completing his pastoral year with us, he will return to the seminary for two more years of theology studies in preparation for becoming a priest. Please welcome Evan when you see him.

Praised be God, now and forever!
Fr. Miller
