From the Pastor:
First, thanks to all who were part of the recent St. Vincent de Paul fundraiser. It was great to see parishioners from all three of our parishes working together for an important common goal. The donations of time, talent, and treasure were inspiring and gratifying for me and many others. God’s presence was evident that Sunday from beginning to end. Both the volunteer workers and those attending had a wonderful time enjoying great food and fellowship. The live music was excellent as were the many raffle baskets. Everything was donated, resulting in $11,007 to help those in need in the area. Thanks again!
Second, the recent tri-parish pilgrimage trip to Pennsylvania was much appreciated by those who made the two-day journey. Their first stop was to visit the Flight 93 memorial, which is southeast of Pittsburg an hour. Many found that to be more emotional than they anticipated. From there they pushed deeper into Pennsylvania for the live theatrical production of Daniel the Prophet. Now the work is underway of planning the next longer trip, including an overseas trip. We had to cancel the Holy Land trip last year because of the violence that has fueled the current war. We are considering a pilgrimage to Italy, or Africa, or somewhere else you might be interested in visiting. Please think about it and let the parish offices know what your interest is regarding this.
Third, previously I announced that St. Peter will be offering a special Mass where the ordinary hymns of the Mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Holy-Holy-Holy, and Lamb of God) will be sung in Latin. Please note that this is NOT a Latin Mass. It will be the same Mass as we know but with the common hymns sung in Latin and the other music in English. As I stated, programs will be provided that have both the Latin and English words printed on them so all can participate. The musical arrangement of some of the hymns will alternate between the choir and congregates. If interested, mark your calendar for Sunday, Nov. 10 @ 11:30. Please note this date is different than previously announced.
Lastly, another important tri-parish ministry that I bring to your attention is Stephen Ministry. It consists of a small team of parishioners who have received training to assist people who are experiencing life difficulties. Those who seek the help of Stephen Ministry are mainly parishioners, both young and old, for issues such as illness, loneliness, death, radical life changes, etc. One of their team members meets with the person, usually weekly, for as many times as needed, providing emotional and spiritual support. Those who desire such assistance should contact the parish office.
The Stephen Ministry team is looking to add two male and two female members to their team. Having both is important because males work with males and females with females. Such individuals should be good listeners, compassionate, and able to maintain confidentiality. They will need to complete 50 hours of required training over 20 weeks. The instructors are our parishioners who are experienced and dedicated to the ministry. They have helped many people and are in need of others to assist with this important work. Look for more information about this in future bulletins.
Gratefully,
Fr. Miller
